American Academy of Sleep Medicine

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) aims to advance sleep care and enhance sleep health to improve lives. AASM serves over 11,000 sleep medicine healthcare professionals, medical students, and medical residents who treat patients with sleep concerns nationwide. AASM addresses sleep issues through health policy, professional development opportunities, health education, research, and partnerships. AASM offers several public awareness and education initiatives. In June 2022, AASM launched "Sleep Is Good Medicine," (www.SleepIsGoodMedicine.org) which is a national campaign that aims to elevate sleep as the third pillar of health, alongside nutrition and exercise, and encourage conversations about sleep between patients and their providers. The AASM Count on Sleep’s “More Than a Snore” initiative (www.CountOnSleep.org) is a national public health campaign that seeks to decrease the number of adults in the U.S. who are living with undiagnosed and untreated sleep apnea by increasing awareness of risk factors and major health effects of sleep apnea. Together, we can figure out what healthy sleep looks like and how to get it.
