The Gadsden Regional Medical Family Medicine Residency Program is a community-based training program fully accredited by the ACGME. The program is dedicated to passionately teaching, modeling, and mentoring exceptional residency education and whole-person care for all patients in the community and beyond. It aims to cultivate an ethos of integrity, accountability, and compassion by developing future family physicians committed to lives of mission, excellence, and service to others. The program's outpatient clinical practice, Foothills Family Medicine, serves as the primary site for residents' continuity clinics. The primary teaching hospital, Gadsden Regional Medical Center, is an unopposed major regional facility offering comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care. Residents manage a diverse patient population across all ages, from infants to geriatric patients, and provide medical consultations for other hospital services. Training includes rotations through various hospital departments, such as the Emergency Room, Operating Rooms, Intensive Care Unit, Labor & Delivery, and the newborn nursery. The full list, including elective opportunities, can be found under the "Academics" tab on our website. The Family Medicine clinic is fully staffed with outstanding personnel, including lab technicians, medical assistants, and administrative support. In addition to laboratory capabilities, the clinic provides point-of-care ultrasound, women's healthcare, and bedside procedures for patients. Residents also have the opportunity to serve the community through several local partnerships. One such partnership is with Quality of Life, the largest FQHC (federally qualified health center) in Alabama. A unique feature of our program is the opportunity for residents to participate in an international elective or mission trip without extending their residency. We offer support through established connections to help you get started, or you can select a site you’re already familiar with. While participation in an international elective is entirely optional, we do provide reimbursement upon your return. Located just one hour north of Birmingham, Gadsden is a safe and welcoming community with approximately 100,000 residents within Etowah County. The area offers a low cost of living, excellent educational opportunities, and a vibrant lifestyle centered on the beautiful Coosa River at the base of the Appalachian Mountains with access to outdoor activities like fishing, boating, hiking, and rock climbing. The historic downtown area provides a charming mix of restaurants and shops, making Gadsden an ideal place to live and work. MS3s and MS4s interested in applying for a rotation with Gadsden Regional FMR can apply via our website at www.GadsdenFMR.com.
