UNIVERISTY OF ARKANSAS FOR MEDICAL SCIENCES - TEXARKANA
Texarkana is in the “Goldilocks zone” for a family medicine residency program: large enough to have an impressive medical community with ample learning opportunities, yet small enough to maintain the relationships and autonomy so critical to our specialty.
Our family medical clinic was designed specifically to facilitate the learning environment of family medicine residents. While we have a dedicated, full-time core of faculty family physicians, resident education is further supported with a board-certified faculty pediatrician, clinical pharmacist, respiratory therapist, licensed professional counselor, and RN case managers, allowing our residents the opportunity to learn how to lead successful multidisciplinary teams. Residents also see patients in our rural community clinic and school-based health clinic.
We are particularly strong in hospital medicine, geriatrics, and pediatrics. Our partnering hospital, CHRISTUS St. Michael, is consistently ranked in the top 100 hospitals in the nation and their local Emergency Medicine fellowship is often filled by recent graduates of our program. Our graduates are successful practicing in the hospital setting, clinic setting, or pursuing various fellowship opportunities and the many nearby rural hospitals provide a multitude of moonlighting opportunities during residency and beyond.
Ultimately, our goal is to help you become the family physician that you were meant to be. So, if you are looking for a place where you feel comfortable and accepted, with a vast array of learning opportunities, then I encourage you to give Texarkana a chance. You may find exactly what you’ve been looking for – a place that even Goldilocks would agree is “just right”.
