We are unique in that we are a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC)-based residency program. FQHC's see all patients, regardless of ability to pay. We aim to train and graduate physicians who will be experts in underserved medicine.
The mission of the Family Medicine Residency Program at Oakland Integrated Healthcare Network (dba Honor Community Health) is to educate its graduates to be competent, caring, dedicated, and effective Family Physicians. Family medicine residents learn to manage a broad spectrum of common primary care conditions in a community-based setting with an aim to prepare them for independent practice by cultivating a strong foundation in clinical medicine, procedural proficiency, and critical thinking, while developing long-term relationships with patients and families. The program maintains a focus on delivering high-quality, patient-centered care and improving health outcomes for individuals and families in our community.
Program Aims:
To provide comprehensive health maintenance and continuing medical care to entire family units.
To acquire the scientific and humane concepts of family medicine as derived from other medical and non-medical sources, as well as the growing body of knowledge developed by family medicine research.
To educate patients on the essentials of routine health maintenance and good health care practices.
To assume an advocate’s role with respect to problems of patients and families.
To maintain a community-focused approach to practice, considering the factors that influence the health and well-being of the patient population as a whole.
To deliver high-quality, cost-effective healthcare that prioritizes patient safety, clinical excellence, and improved outcomes for the community.
