American College of Family Medicine
FIRST, DO NO HARM.
Our Mission: To preserve and defend the principles and practice of Hippocratic Family Medicine. These principles include protecting the vulnerable at the beginning and end of life, seeking the ultimate good for the patient with compassion and moral integrity, and providing healthcare with the highest standards of excellence based on medical science.
1. In the Hippocratic tradition, we strive to act in the best interest of our patients, seeking their highest good.
2. We value the inherent dignity and worth of all persons from conception to natural death. It is our duty to protect and preserve human life and not to harm it.
3. We value the healthcare professional’s right of conscience.
4. We value stewardship and the wise use of resources in healthcare.
5. We value scientific integrity and the application of evidence-based care to all patients, free from political and cultural bias.
Many of our members are also members of the AAFP Physicians for Life Member Interest Group (PFL-MIG). Having a separate organization allows us to network as pro-life family physicians both within the AAFP and outside the AAFP.
