UPMC St. Margaret FMR provides training with impressive breadth and depth. You will develop skills to confront and comprehensively manage complex medical problems for your patients, practice and community.
You will care for a diverse patient panel with complicated medical conditions, social determinants of health, behavioral health issues and substance use disorders.
Our 3 Family Health Centers are trusted partners in medically underserved communities, providing comprehensive primary care including adult/geriatric and pediatric care; obstetrics and gynecologic procedures; musculoskeletal medicine, sports and Osteopathic Manipulation Therapy; on-site behavioral health counseling, support, MOUD/AUD; and palliative care. We have a strong Integrated Behavioral Health curriculum with embedded social workers, pharmDs, psychiatry and experienced addiction medicine faculty who work side by side with you. You will utilize cutting edge technology including POCUS and AI tools to assist with patient care and communication, and will gain valuable skills in working collaboratively within and leading interdisciplinary teams.
UPMC St. Margaret FMR is an Osteopathic Recognition program, and our osteopathic faculty provide full spectrum care including OMM, obstetrics and sports medicine services for our patients.
Because we are the only residency program based at UPMC St. Margaret Hospital, your inpatient medicine training is strong, and you will experience the autonomy, independence and profound responsibility of being the first responders and physicians for patients in every service of the hospital, including our two inpatient services and geriatrics, emergency department, ICU and surgery. You will gain the skills and confidence to care for patients in the hospital at every level of need.
You will strengthen your skills in inpatient pediatrics at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and your obstetric skills at UPMC Magee Women’s Hospital; both Hospitals provide residency training that are nationally ranked for excellence in pediatrics and obstetrics.
UPMC St. Margaret FMR has 4 Fellowship programs that provide specialized postgraduate training in obstetrics, sports medicine, geriatrics and faculty development. Every day, you will learn and be mentored by our excellent family medicine faculty who are leaders in these fields.
Finally, UPMC St. Margaret is one of the oldest programs in the country, and the largest residency training program in Pennsylvania.
