The University of South Florida/Morton Plant Mease Family Medicine Residency is a three year, unopposed 8/8/8 program sponsored by the University of South Florida’s Department of Family Medicine and based at Morton Plant Hospital, a Thomson Reuters Top 100 Hospital in Clearwater, Florida. The program offers a flexible, well-rounded curriculum in a diverse community-based setting. The residents see patients at the Turley Family Health Center, a designated Patient Centered Medical Home. We were the first residency in the state of Florida to achieve PCMH status. Residents are afforded the opportunity to customize their educational experience with generous elective rotation time. They also benefit from inter-professional education, working side by side with the fellows from our Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship and with the resident from our Pharmacy Residency.
Accomplished faculty drive the residency curriculum through innovative initiatives that align with cutting-edge educational demands as evidenced by the fact that ninety percent of our residents who applied for fellowships were accepted into their top choice. Tracks and curricula that address the growing trends in medicine such as Telemedicine, Wilderness and Tropical Medicine, Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS), and Leadership Development have made the residents in our program highly marketable. Since 1998 the program has graduated 142 residents who are currently practicing medicine in numerous types of settings throughout the United States.
