A community family medicine residency site located in culturally diverse South King County. The residency clinic is on the campus of UW Medicine | Valley Medical Center in Renton, Washington. The program has 24 residents; core family medicine faculty; specialty faculty trained in IM, IM/Peds, pediatrics, Ob-Gyn, Sports Medicine and psychiatry; a behavioral health scientist and clinical pharmacist. Students work with senior residents and faculty to provide full spectrum outpatient care, including procedures, to a wide variety of complex and often underserved patients. We strive to expose students to the continuity model of care by assigning OB patients for the duration of the rotation and facilitating the scheduling of these patients in the student’s clinic slots for follow up. In addition to the FM clinic, students attend nursing home rounds and also spend time in our specialty consult clinics which include OB, travel medicine, pediatric and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment. On request, a day on our OB service or our combined Med-Peds service can be arranged. Learners are included in didactics and workshops covering a wide variety of topics. They also have the opportunity to learn about other aspects of care by spending time with our RN care managers. We schedule approximately 4 half days during the rotation for individualized study.
