Program Mission Statement
The Rural Family Medicine Residency prepares physicians to independently and competently practice full-spectrum family medicine. We accomplish this by providing a patient-centered medical home to all in our community, especially underserved minorities identified by income, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, and gender identity. We strive to offer a diverse and inclusive clinical team of faculty, residents, and staff whose experiences and perspectives enhance the quality of our training, our care, and the lives of our patients.
Overview
Residents spend their PGY1 in Milwaukee (except for Continuity Clinic), and PGY2 and PGY3 in Elkhorn, WI.
Purpose
Our goal is to produce family physicians that can address the special needs of rural populations.
Curriculum
The program combines a variety of inpatient and outpatient rotations with broad elective choices.
Aurora Rural Family Medicine Residency faculty bring diverse backgrounds and a deep understanding of both general and rural family medicine to our program, serving as excellent role models and teachers for our residents.
Aurora residents come from all over the U.S. and world, and bring a wide range of skills and interests to our program. Get to know them by reading resident biographies.
The Aurora Lakeland Family Medicine Clinic is the primary residency practice site. Residents have their continuity clinic here all three years. The clinic is conveniently located in Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn, Wisconsin.
Residents complete two scholarly projects during their training. One is a quality improvement project focused on the residency practice. The other project is the resident's choice, and can include projects developed from residency practice, community medicine experiences or any other health experience in the Lakeland area.
The Aurora Rural Family Medicine Residency offers a competitive salary, comprehensive health coverage for you and your eligible dependents and many other perks.
