The mission of the Montana Family Medicine Residency is to develop, empower, and educate the next generation of full spectrum Family Physicians who provide excellent care for Montana with an emphasis on vulnerable populations.  We offer continuity clinic training based out of a Teaching FQHC that cares for urban and rural underserved patients.  You will learn about team based care using a PCMH delivery model, with integrated behavioral health, care management, and onsite clinic informatics support.  Our clinic was in a recently expanded into a beautiful new structure in 2018 with a pod/team focused design.

You will develop strong inpatient skills rotating in both of our non-profit community based hospitals where we care for our continuity patients. We have a variety of community based learning experiences to help prepare you for future practice.  2 rural rotations are offered as month long experiences.  We currently have 2 tracks available, one in Wilderness Medicine through the Wilderness Medicine Society, and a Public Health and Advocacy track with opportunities for working at the local, state and federal level, and optional MPH. In 2017 we received the Baldwin Award from the ACGME for our humanistic and respectful learning environment, to build on this recognition we strive to include residents in planning and change initiatives across clinic and the residency.

We are located in Billings, MT which offers a lot of amenities as the largest city in Montana despite its relatively small size of around 100,000 people.  In the city, there are biking trails, hiking, mountain biking, boating, fishing and rock climbing.  The Beartooth / Absorakee wilderness is nearby within 60-90 min drive, as well as numerous other outdoor activities.

MFMR was established over 20 years ago and was a trailblazer for GME in Montana.  We have seen 70% of our graduates continue to practice in Montana.  MFMR seeks residents that are self-motivated, have a passion for working with underserved patients in urban or rural environments and enjoy working in a collaborative / team based manner.  We would like for you to join our team to further your education in Family Medicine.
