Welcome to MacNeal Family Medicine!

We are proud to be one of the oldest family medicine programs in the country and the first in Illinois. We celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2019, along with the specialty of family medicine.

We are a 11-11-11 residency and we have fellowships in sports medicine and faculty development.

We offer comprehensive family medicine training at a community hospital, affiliated with the Loyola University Medical Center. Our practice is in a diverse community and includes patients of all ages.

We developed our resident-centered curriculum to give you the best learning experience, including hands-on procedure training, didactics, and exposure to specialists while you practice full-spectrum family medicine.

We are located in the suburbs of Chicago, close to downtown Chicago and all the amenities of a world class city. The Metro train station is conveniently across the street from the hospital.

Our practice in the Family Medicine Center is the largest single practice in the Loyola Medicine network, and is located across the street from MacNeal hospital.

We have a low core faculty to resident ratio, and all of our faculty practice alongside our residents in the family medicine center. So, your preceptors are also your practice partners. We work closely with our residents and enjoy personally getting to know them.

I am a graduate of the MacNeal residency program. Between my time as a resident, faculty member, and program director, I have spent 29 rewarding and happy years in the MacNeal residency. I would love to tell you more about the program and the wonderful residents and faculty at MacNeal.

Welcome from our Chief Residents!

Welcome to the Loyola Family Medicine Residency program! We’re excited to share our story with you.

Chelsea is from the metro Detroit area, falling in love with the Chicago area far before her medical journey. Akshay is from Chicago and has lived here most of his life. For us, choosing Loyola MacNeal was an easy decision! 

As the oldest and largest Family Medicine program in Illinois, and part of the Loyola University Health Systems, we offer the benefits of both a well established community hospital as well as a large academic institution. Our robust outpatient training is bolstered by a strong inpatient curricula alongside other specialties. We also have a wide-range of training opportunities, including hands-on Sports Medicine clinics, POCUS, a Global Health track, community engagement, and the ability to create electives to fit our educational needs. Beyond residency, we offer fellowships in both Sports Medicine and Faculty Development. 

Our clinic is one of the busiest and most accessible in the area, true to Family Medicine with patients ranging from newborns to the elderly. We are a well-established part of the community, providing necessary care to an underserved urban population. We have long-established patients receiving care for a multitude of chronic medical problems, but are also seeing new patients and treating acute complaints every day!
