UNR Family Medicine Residency - Elko Rural Training Track

  • Booth: 2209

Elko is a rural town 200 miles from the nearest city, where your opportunity to grow is open, unimpeded.  We are a 1-2 program, so you spend your intern year in Reno, where all specialties are available, and you learn the fundamentals of city medicine, then move to Elko for 2 years, where you can learn to practice with rural limitations and broad, rural scope of practice.
In Elko, you will work at a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) with underserved patients who are medically complex with multiple comorbid conditions. At times we are their only resource and must treat the patient, thereby broadening your scope of training. You get obstetric training at Northeastern Regional Hospital (NNRH), which includes vaginal deliveries and C-sections. You will have robust hands-on training in the ER and inpatient service as it has an open-ICU where you manage high acuity patients.  You learn Point-of-Care ultrasound curriculum and have opportunity to use it in clinic. The learning opportunities in a rural residency are endless.
